ADAS Calibration

The cameras and sensors behind your windshield have to be aimed precisely. Replace the glass and they need recalibrating. We do that here, on our own equipment.

An ADAS calibration rig set up in front of a vehicle in the Best Auto Care shop, with the glass inventory rack behind it

Why it is needed

Aim matters.

Lane keeping, automatic braking and adaptive cruise all read the road through a camera mounted to your windshield. Move that glass, even slightly, and what the camera sees no longer matches what the vehicle thinks it is seeing.

Calibration re-aims those sensors against a known target so the systems read the road correctly again. We do it in our own shop rather than sending your vehicle out to someone else.

Why it matters

The camera is the
eyes of your safety systems.

A camera aimed even slightly off tells the rest of the vehicle a story that does not match the road. That is the difference calibration makes.

Without calibration
  • Lane departure warnings may trigger unnecessarily, or not at all
  • Forward collision alerts may be inaccurate or delayed
  • Adaptive cruise control may not maintain a safe following distance
  • Automatic emergency braking may not work properly
  • Blind spot and traffic sign recognition may fail
Properly calibrated
  • Lane keeping alerts work when they are actually needed
  • Collision warnings are accurate and arrive on time
  • Adaptive cruise control maintains the correct distance
  • Automatic emergency braking functions the way it was designed to
  • Blind spot and traffic sign recognition work as intended

Lane Keeping Assist
Forward Collision Warning
Adaptive Cruise Control
Automatic Emergency Braking
Blind Spot Monitor
Traffic Sign Recognition

Common questions

ADAS calibration,
answered.

Does my vehicle need calibration after a windshield replacement?

If it has driver-assist features (lane keeping, adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking), then yes. Those systems depend on a camera mounted to the glass, so replacing the glass means the camera has to be re-aimed.

How do I know whether my vehicle has these systems?

Tell us the year, make and model when you call and we will tell you what your vehicle needs. Most vehicles from roughly the last decade have at least one of them.

What happens if it is skipped?

The systems may misread the road, braking or steering based on an aim that is slightly off. This is the part of a windshield job worth not cutting corners on, which is why we do not treat it as optional.

Do you calibrate here, or send it somewhere else?

Here, in our own shop, on our own equipment. That keeps the whole job under one roof instead of adding a second appointment somewhere else.

Is calibration covered by insurance?

When it is part of a windshield replacement claim it is usually handled together with the glass. Tell us who covers you and we will deal with the claim.

How long does it take?

It depends on the vehicle and which systems it runs. We will give you a realistic time when we quote the job rather than a number that may not fit your car.
